I'm looking at finally picking up a V1 after a scare the other day, but I'm not sure if the one that I found is a good deal or not. The guy is asking $275 for a detector that came with a vehicle he just purchased, and says it's an "older" model and that someone told him it didn't have the quick-scanning POP feature. Was there a V1 without POP, and is it worth $275 if so? Help appreciated. Thanks everyone!

If you're considering a picking up a top-end detector, I would recommend saving up/waiting for a sale on the Passport 9500ix. The GPS-aware functionality is leagues beyond other fuzzbusters on the market. The 9500ix has been as cheap as $309 new and $269 refurb lately.

Last I was aware, POP is not used many places in the US. I've got a V1 without POP, I'm a PA resident and it works great, everywhere but PA!

Avoid one speeding ticket and it immediately becomes worth it.
My V1 has paid itself off multiple times over since I bought it in 2006, and probably saved me my license as well.

Would you say that having POP or no POP is a deal breaker, though?

While I do like the idea of the GPS aware tech, I haven't really ever seen it work right. And even then, the beep-beep of my V1 is so hardwired into my brain that I barely notice falses anymore.

I second this. I got mine as a high school graduation present from my father. That was 2003, it still works like a champ and saved me thousands during my college years Philadelphia to Vermont.

For me, not at all. The state troopers in my area exclusively use Ka, and the sheriff rolls around with his K band blasting all the time so I know exactly what to expect.
For longer trips to lesser known lands, it would be helpful. But whenever I do longer trips we usually have both a V1 and a Passport plugged in, along with Waze.

Yup. FL - NYC back and forth multiple times.
Our best time was after sophomore year, a buddy and I did Orlando to Northern NJ in 15.5 hours. That was insane.

Been using a v1 for about 10 years. I've had a couple as 1 was lost during a trip, and another was stolen.
I can honestly say I have probably been saved 40+ times easily. Due to some health things I don't get to go out and drive as much as I use to, and I take it a heckuv a lot easier now. That being said on freeway trips the thing still saves me, wouldn't go across state w/o it.

But would you say that POP or no POP is a deal breaker in buying a detector?

With radar driving assistance/warning becoming more and more prevalent you're probably going to want the newest one you can get so you can enable Traffic Monitor Filter to try to kill some of the rolling false positives.
